What is counselling?

Counselling is a confidential service that helps you to address concerns in a positive way, while learning more about yourself. It involves meeting with a counsellor, who will work alongside you throughout your journey to find employment and help you to achieve your goals. Our aim at JobCo. is to provide you with a professional service in a comfortable, safe, supportive and friendly environment.

How can counselling help me?

Counselling can help you to develop a better understanding of how your concerns are affecting you and your life, and what you can do to make some positive changes. Counselling can also help you to look at situations in different ways, and to come up with solutions to problems, while learning new skills. Being able to share your thoughts and feelings with a trained counsellor in a quiet, confidential setting, can also bring great relief.

What can I expect in the first session?

Deciding to see a counsellor can be a difficult decision, but coming along to your first session means you’ve already taken one of the hardest steps! During your first appointment, the counsellor will explain how counselling works and answer any questions you might have. You’ll also be asked about the issue that is concerning you the most. The counsellor will listen to you, and ask questions, to get a better understanding of your issue and what it means to you.

Making changes to your life can bring up a mixture of emotions, and putting what you think and feel into words so that another person can understand them can be difficult. This means you may experience some frustration as you try out new ways of doing things from time to time. Working on the changes that you’d like to make however, with the encouragement and support of a counsellor, can often lead to renewed confidence.
